Tiny Triumphs and Everyday Magic: My Happiness Manifesto

For today’s post, I wanted to do something a little different and talk about the things that genuinely make me happy—not the material bits, not the superficial favourites, but the tiny everyday joys that actually lift my mood. These little moments anchor me, reset me, and help me appreciate life even when everything feels chaotic.

So here it is: the simple, random, and very real list of things that make me happiest.

10 Little Things That Make Me Happy

The Smell of the Air on a Hot Night

I know it sounds bizarre, but there’s something almost magical about warm evening air in England. That slightly sticky heat, the faint smell of BBQ smoke drifting around, sun cream lingering in the air… it just hits different. The moment the weather turns hot, I’m ready to sit in the garden with a cold glass of wine and breathe it all in.

When My Dog Gives Me a Cuddle

Nothing—and I mean nothing—is purer than a dog cuddle. My Golden Retriever may be chaotic, needy, and absolutely dramatic, but when she curls up on my lap, puts her paws on my shoulders, and buries her head into my neck… well, it’s the kind of love humans can’t compete with. It’s a little gesture, but it completely makes my day.

The Stars in the Night Sky

I recently wrote an entire post about my love for the night sky, so I’ll keep this one short. The stars make everything feel grounded. They remind me that my worries are tiny compared to the scale of the universe. And on a crisp, cold night when the sky is clear and full of stars? Perfection.

Getting Tipsy with Friends and Family

Apparently, “100% authentic Danielle” only appears after two glasses of wine. I’m usually pretty highly strung (shocking, I know), and my job keeps me wired, so it takes a while for me to fully relax. But that sweet spot between sober and tipsy? That’s where the real fun lives. Walls down, laughter up, iconic one-liners everywhere.

Feeling Skinny

Ah yes—the rare, fleeting miracle of waking up without bloat. Being intolerant to half the food on the planet means I’m usually the shape of a small hot-air balloon most days. But on those magical mornings when I wake up feeling flat and trim? The world feels right again. It’s a tiny victory, but I’ll take it.

Watching the Water

Where I live is surrounded by water, which is slightly terrifying during flooding season, but absolutely beautiful the rest of the year. After stressful days, I love heading to the canal near my home, sitting on the bank with a glass of wine, and just watching the water move. It’s so calming, so grounding, and the wildlife is always a treat.

Having Money in My Bank

Growing up in a single-parent home, money was always tight. So even now, being in a position where I can buy food without stressing or do an M&S shop without crying at the till feels surreal. Every time I check my bank and see that I’m fine financially, it feels like the biggest blessing.

Eating Good Food

Healthy eating? Yes. Depriving myself of delicious food? Absolutely not. My husband and I plan one “no guilt allowed” dinner each month where we eat whatever we’ve been craving—always something full of flavour and absolutely terrible for us. For me, it’s usually a rich, indulgent curry, and it brings me so much joy.

Ticking Off My To-Do List

Organisation is my love language. My days revolve around to-do lists, and they’re often longer than my arm. When I manage to tick off everything—blog tasks, work tasks, house tasks—it feels euphoric. Nothing beats that feeling of closing my laptop, sinking into the sofa, and enjoying trash TV with zero guilt.

Feeling Positive

With OCD and anxiety, most days are mentally exhausting. So when I have a day where everything feels lighter—where the fog lifts and I feel genuinely happy—it hits me right in the heart. I wish those days came more often, but when they do, I treat them like absolute gifts.

I hope you enjoyed this little insight into the things that bring me joy. They might seem small, but they’re the moments that genuinely brighten my days. I’d love to know what makes you happy—drop yours in the comments and let’s spread some positivity.
