Today, I am going to speak to you guys about how to get more blog traffic. I know that many of us do not have our blogs to get hordes of traffic. For me, this is a hobby that I adore doing. It is a distraction and an outlet for me. However, an increase in blog traffic would be a bonus because it is an indication that people like what you are doing. I also feel like because I put so much into my blog, both money and time. It would be nice to get something back for that and I don’t mean money, just page views. These are simple things that you can do. They probably won’t be anything you will not have heard before. Simple yet effective things.

 

 

Think about your content

I feel like this first point may go without saying, but to get the views, the need to have interesting content. For me, I write about everything that I am passionate about. Most of the time, I am not bothered if some posts flop, I just want to write about what I love. If I did want to take it more serious, I would carry out some analysis. I would use Google tools to see what is tending. I would look into other bloggers and what they are writing about. Plus, I would also analyse my data to see what posts have had a good response in the past. Then I would structure my future content around that. A very simple step that does not take much training. But it can make a big difference.

 

Look into your keywords

I am sure that if you have looked into how to get more blog traffic, keywords will have come up. This is one of the basic elements of SEO, but keywords are essential. To put it in its simplest form, Google needs clear keywords, to know when to show your post. Such as, in this post my keyword and phrase is “how to get more blog traffic”. Look through my post and you will see that around 5 times. You need to add it organically in your text or you can be blacklisted, but it needs to be there. It is incredibly simple to do, just write your post, then read it back and ensure that it is there. You will not regret taking this step.

 

Use SEO plugins

There are so many different plug ins that you can get for your blog. For me, my blog is on WordPress and I have a whole host of plug ins. My favourite has to be Yoast. What Yoast does is look at the readability of the blog post to ensure Google bots can easily can. Then, it checks the content for SEO optimisation. It makes suggestions to improve and just helps to set you on the right path. I would not write a post now without using Yoast and implementing all suggestions. It is such a fantastic little tool and I would recommend everybody try it out. There will be many others out there that are suitable for different blogging platforms.

 

Optimise the speed of your site

I could not write this post without mentioning site speed. I work in SEO and I completely understand the importance of site speed. Back in May, Google released an update. This entire update, Google got much stricter on speed site. Essentially, if your site is slow to load, they are going to push you to the bottom of the rankings. When this update came out, I had to update the website I manage for the company which I work. Not only that, but I had to upgrade my blog hosting. It can be a costly thing to upgrade our hosting, but worth it if you really want to see an increase in the figures.

 

Be social online

Something which is incredibly important in how to get more blog views is to be social. This is something that is incredibly simple and easy to do. For me, I spend a couple hours commenting on other blogs, once a week. The blogs that I love to visit, I have a tab set up with them. Then, once a week I will just comb through them and comment on the latest posts. I always leave a link back the homepage of my blog. The amount of traffic that I gain from this is astronomical. Even when I go through phases of not doing it, I still get referral traffic. Doing this will not only increase the blog views, but it will also put you at the heart of the community. I have done this for many years and I have become good friends with the people I comment on.
