As we are getting ever closer to the birth of our little baby, the hospital bag needed to be packed. Everybody in my life thought that I was tempting fate by not having one ready yet. So, this past weekend my husband and I spent some time getting items together so that if anything happens, we can grab our bags and run for the door.
In this post I am going to share with you some of the items that I have inside my hospital bag. The items for me, my husband and our little bundle of joy that is due in just a few short weeks.
Adult disposable underwear, perineal bottle and cooling pads.
I am not blind to the fact that whether I have a c-section or a vaginal birth, that from the hips down I’m going to be a trainwreck. To be honest, I think I have bought just about everything that I can which is branded as ‘birth recovery’. I have disposable underwear, super absorbent pads, a perineal bottle for after I use the bathroom, cooling pads and just about everything else. But if you guys can think of any amazing things that you think I need, please do let me know!

Comfortable pyjamas, robe and slippers.
I have two very different vibes when it comes to the pyjamas and comfy clothes that I am taking. I have the truly functional things that will give me lots of space and be incredibly comfortable, but I will look a little like a troll in them. Then I have other clothes which are still lose fitting and comfortable, but a little more acceptable to be seen by people. My plan is just to wear what feels good and what I need in that moment.
Â
Toiletries and makeup bag.
Some people have disputed me taking my toiletries and makeup bag. However, those people probably aren’t familiar with me. I feel better, by making myself look better. People think I will be too tired and that may be the case. However, if I am having visitors, I will want to feel like myself, even if my body feels like it’s been hit by a train. I at least want to have it with me. My sister is someone that after giving birth didn’t look twice at a hairbrush for months. But I have a cousin that looked like a Hollywood icon hours after having her baby. Different strokes for different folks.
Â
Baby clothes, nappies, blankets, etc.
Obviously, we are going to need some items for the baby. I have included a few nappies in different sizes, sleepsuits, blankets, hats and hand mitts. Not to mention countless muslins which I have been told will be used hand over fist. The hospital did advice that there is no need to take any medicines, creams or lotions for the baby. Anything that we may need, they will be able to supply and in the first few days they don’t recommend giving the baby a bath or using anything on their fragile skin.
Â
Snacks for my husband.
I already know that if we don’t take a whole plethora of snacks with us, my husband will be abandoning me every 5 minutes to find something to eat. You can bet your bottom dollar that I am going to have with me countess bags of crisps, chocolate bars, cereal bars and everything else in between. That man is not allowed to leave my side for a single second. Especially if he is going to seek food. I will need him and he can just live on nothing but snacks.
Â
iPad, chargers, camera, etc.
I want to live in the moment as much as I can once my baby is here. However, I have been told by many people that the lead up to the birth can be a slog. Everybody has recommended that we have a form of entertainment to keep our minds off what is actually happening. I think the boxset of the US Office will keep me more than occupied. Then we will obviously need chargers with long leads and a camera to capture some of the first precious moments.
As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post and reading about what I’m including in my hospital bag. I am sure that over the weeks, I will find other things that I want to bring along with me. One thing that I need to remember is that I only live 15 minutes away from the hospital. My husband or another family will be able to go and get anything that we need during birth, or after while we are adjusting to life with our new baby. But seeing my packed bag makes me so excited. The next few weeks cannot go quick enough. I need this little baby in my arms now!
