Travel is one of my favourite subjects here on my site. Many times, I have shared that up until a few years ago, I didn’t fancy myself as a traveller. I was a homebody and that was how I liked it. If I would ever go away, I would yearn to be home and count down the days until I was back. With that said, my opinions and views changed, and I got older, and my husband and I thought about having children. We know that life would be very different one day and we took travelling very different and saw the immense privilege in it.

In todays post, I am going to share with you some of my favourite travel destinations around the world and why they mean so much to us.

Maldives.

I didn’t want to love the Maldives half as much as I do. My husband and I first went on our honeymoon after COVID had passed. Even though we both wanted to experience the beautiful place, we were both rather sceptical. We didn’t know how it could possibly live up to the insane expectations that we had set against the place. But oh boy, did it live it up our incredibly high expectations and so much more. It was the holiday of a lifetime, with a price tag to match.

New York.

Even long before going to New York, it played a big part of my life. It is such a big part of pop culture and I adore everything about the vibe of the city. The first time I went, I waltzed around like Carrie Bradshaw visiting all of the big tourist attractions and it was unlike anywhere I had ever visited before. Since that first trip, I have visited again and my love for the place only deepens. I have now spent much more time around Greenwich and Tribeca and I honestly think that I could make a home there.

Rome.

As a child that was completely in love with Italian culture and history, Rome was my dream destination. My dad wanted to take me when I was younger, but a city breaks and visiting museums seemed like a nightmare to my other siblings. I ended up going with my husband when we hadn’t been together for a long time and the place completely stole my heart. It was breathtaking, I walked around like a tour guide for my husband and it was the most exciting trip of my life.

Provence.

If I am ever wanting a more European way of life that is incredibly relaxed, the first place that comes to my mind is Provence. The first time we went, I fell in love, but my husband was bored out of his mind. We were waking up in a beautiful villa, walking down to the beach, I would read all day long before enjoying a meal and far too much wine, before waltzing back home. It is a life that I could certainly become accustomed to me and I fell in love with the place.

Lisbon.

Lisbon was never a place that I actually wanted to visit. It was actually my husband that really pushed for us to visit. I think at the time he had a list of places that he wanted to tick from the list before we went ahead and settled down. The main reason why I fell in love with Lisbon was because of the amazing food. For me, this was a true foody place and within a few days there, I was hooked. Culinary wise, it was unlike anything that I had tried before, and I knew it would be a place that we return.

Nashville.

If you learn one thing about me, let it be that I adore country music. Many years ago, I read a novel and laced through the book were songs that it recommended you listen to a specific place. It was all country music, and I can remember initially rolling my eyes and giving it a try. I was hooked. Since then, country music has become my entire personality and that meant that a trip to Nashville was on the cards. It has my heart, and my dream is another trip there to go to some concerts, drink too much and experience the true Nashville.

South Africa.

I wanted to go to South Africa for a very long time, but I was terrified that I would see a tarantula the side of a dinner plate and flee the country. However, I had friends that visited, did the whole safari thing and had the time of their live. To be honest, my husband and I did wonder if we should hold this trip off and do it with our kids one day, but there is harm in experiencing the magic again. We know that we will be visiting the beautiful country again soon.

Florence.

I am sure that you guys were well aware when you started this post that there would have to be mention of Florence in there somewhere. Out of everywhere that I have mentioned on this list, it is Florence that has a piece of my heart. It is my dream to retire here one day with a view over the Ponte Vecchio so that I can sit and sip amazing Italian wine while I people watch. It is without a doubt my favourite place on the planet.

Seville.

Out of all the smaller European cities that I have mentioned in this post, I adore Seville because of the relaxed atmosphere in the city. The countless times my husband and I have visited, we have almost being horizontal because it is such a laid-back place. Even during peak times when the place is bustling, there is still a relaxed atmosphere to the place that makes like people are waltzing around without a care in the world.

Paris.

The final place that I am going to mention is a metropolitan city that I am completely head over heels in love with. The first time I actually visited Paris, I didn’t like it all that much. My husband and I stayed pretty far out and not in the best neighbourhood. Plus, it was during a horrendous snowstorm and the locals seemed to be full of distain. It was unpleasant, but I visited again a number of years later with my friends. It was the girls trip to end girls trips and I got to see the side of Paris that others adore.

As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post and learning more about some of our favourite destinations around the world. I only wish that my mind was opened to the wonders of travel much before it was. However, we are so lucky to have visited so many amazing places and I know that we will be able to plan trips to many more with our little one in tow.

Be sure to leave me a comment below. Let me know what you think about some of the places that I have mentioned below and if there are any places that you love, fill me in!
