Today’s post is all about a makeup product that I’ve used and loved for years — one that somehow still feels like a hidden gem in the beauty world. The MAC Full Coverage Foundation is one of those classic products that deserves far more attention than it gets.
I first heard about it years ago through a Wayne Goss tutorial on YouTube. Back then, it was a Pro-only product, meaning you could only buy it from a MAC Pro store or by calling their order line directly. I still remember phoning through my first order (very old-school, I know) and instantly falling in love from the first application. Since then, it’s been a staple in my collection.

Packaging
Let’s start with the packaging. For a product originally designed for professional makeup artists, the packaging is exactly what it needs to be — practical, sturdy, and easy to handle. It comes in a sleek black compact with a clear lid so you can see the shade inside, which is ideal if you keep multiple shades for your kit.
That said, I once travelled with it in my suitcase and the clear insert popped out and wedged itself into the product (a slightly heart-stopping moment), but it was easily fixed. Lesson learned: maybe don’t toss it into an overpacked suitcase next to your hair straighteners!
Coverage and Finish
As the name suggests, this is serious coverage — full, flawless, and completely buildable. It’s one of those products that can take you from “just rolled out of bed” to “red-carpet ready” in about five minutes.
I like to apply it with a flat foundation brush and then go over my skin with a damp Beauty Blender to press it in and remove any excess. This step makes all the difference — it gives the foundation a more natural finish while maintaining that full-coverage look.
If you prefer something lighter, you can sheer it out by mixing it with a little moisturiser on the back of your hand. But honestly, if you’re going to the trouble of doing that, you might be better off reaching for a lighter foundation in the first place. This one was made to cover everything, and it does it beautifully.
Longevity
Longevity is where this foundation really shines. I’ve worn it for long workdays, weddings, and nights out, and it does not move. With light powder touch-ups during the day, it still looks flawless from early morning until late at night.
The only area where I get the tiniest bit of shine is around my nose, but that’s easily fixed with a dusting of my Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder. Other than that, it stays put and photographs perfectly — smooth, even, and never cakey.
Compatibility with Other Products
Because I wear multiple thin layers of products — primer, concealer, powder, bronzer — I need everything to work well together. Thankfully, MAC Full Coverage Foundation plays nicely with everything I’ve paired it with. It blends seamlessly with creams, powders, and even heavier setting sprays.
The only thing I’d advise against is applying it directly with a damp sponge from the start — the sponge tends to absorb too much product, and this foundation is too beautiful (and too pigmented!) to waste. Brushes are your best friend here.
Value for Money
At around £40, this foundation might not be cheap, but it’s one of those products that truly earns its price tag. One compact can last me a year — sometimes longer — even with regular use. The formula is so rich and pigmented that you need the tiniest amount each time. For professional makeup artists, it’s a must-have. I used it constantly when I was working weddings and events, and it never once let me down. The shade range is extensive, the texture is luxurious, and the coverage is second to none.
Final Thoughts
The MAC Full Coverage Foundation is, without a doubt, one of the best cream foundations I’ve ever used. It’s a makeup artist’s dream, but it’s just as perfect for everyday wear if you love a polished, high-coverage finish. It’s versatile enough for contouring, highlighting, and even spot concealing.
If you’re after that flawless-skin effect — the kind that lasts all day and makes you feel completely put together — this is the product to try. It deserves more love than it gets, and I can’t recommend it enough.
