It is time for a new blog post and today it is going to be all about writers block. I have been writing and blogging now for over 10 years. During that time, I have suffered from writers block on more than one occasion. Sometimes, I will sit down at my laptop and the words do not come to me. Even though the subject may be engaging and something that I want to talk about, it just doesn’t happen. Over the years, I have tried many different things to try and get the words to flow. After a very long time, I feel like I now have a couple of tips and tricks to share. So, if you want to know some ways to help get over writers block, please do keep on reading!
Take some time out.
The first thing that I need to mention and possibly the thing I recommend the most is taking time. Sometimes, staring at a blank screen never helps you to feel creative. There have been so many times that I have targeting myself to writing a set amount and I kick myself when I cant achieve it. Usually, I punish myself by making myself just sit there and force the words. Very quickly I learnt hat if you do this, it never reads well and you will kick yourself that you didn’t just take a step back.

Seek inspiration.
There are so many other people out there in the creator space that are amazing. Sometimes, by taking time to read other peoples posts, it can really inspire me. There are so many amazing creators out there at the moment, it is crazy to not read their posts and listen to what they have to say. Normally after an hour or two of catching up with my favourite people online, I begin to feel a little more creative once again. I highly recommend taking inspiration from your peers.
Â
Get out of the house.
Usually, I get inside my head a little too much. When the words aren’t flowing freely, I can really beat myself up. Sometimes, just getting out of the house is the best thing for me. I will go for a walk through the countryside and along the canal where I live. Usually, the fresh air really revitalises me and I love it. It fully clears my head and it helps me more than I can mention. Not only with writing, but just about everything else in my life. Getting out always helps.
Â
Stop thinking about my blog.
At times when I am really struggling, I need to quit thinking about my blog. It isn’t always easy to do, but sometimes I need to walk away form it. Because of my OCD, I can certainly think too much about specific things. Writing being one of them. In times when it simply isn’t coming, I walk away from my blog. Because I have things queued for a number of weeks, I have some leeway. Then, by the time I am ready to come back, I am normally firing on all cylinders.
As always, I hope that you guys enjoyed this post about writers block. For creatives, it really is a hard thing to navigate. There have been periods in my life where I have been bursting with inspiration. During those times I could write 10 posts in a single day. Then there are other occasions where I can be sat at my laptop for hours, unable to get past the first sentence. One of the main things that I do is just take some time away. Whether it is an hour or a day, get some space. Take some time and I am sure that you will soon be back firing on all cylinders. If you have any tips for overcoming writers block, I would love to hear from you guys in the comments below
