It is time for a new post and today I am going to be speaking about the beautiful Dior Saddle Bag. If you are a fashion lover like me, you will be well aware of the Dior Saddle bag, and I am sure social media has rammed it down your throat plenty over the years.

Recently I was having my annual closet clear out and I came across my wonderful little collection of Saddle bags. But it then dawned on me that I have never actually written a post on these handbags before and that is something that I am going to rectify today. Here are my thoughts on the Dior Saddle Bag, the reasons why I would recommend and some information on how I wear them.

Why I wanted this item.

The first reason why I ever fell in love with the Dior Saddle bag was because of the iconic Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. In the programme, I think you see her with a white version, printed with gold chains and pink scarves. The pattern on the bag is very Hermes-esque. I can remember being a child at the time and wanting it so badly. As soon as I started earning my own money from my Saturday job back when I was a teenager, I began scouring the second-hand market so I could get the same bag. When that failed, I opted for my classic monogramme print and I have never looked back since.

Where I bought my bags.

My first Saddle I bought vintage from Vestaire Collective. My second bag following the big revival was direct from the Bond Street Boutique and then following that I have purchased my bags online. I will say that shopping in Dior was a wonderful experience. Not at all intimidating like other designer boutiques. The sales associates allowed me to run around like a fool trying everything on, even though I only went for the classic saddle. I think at one point I was adorned in Dior diamonds just for fun. The team were amazing!

How much these cost.

The first Dior Saddle bag that I bought was vintage. I’m pretty sure that pre-revival I paid £600 for my classic newspaper print bag. A beautiful item that really ignited my love for the style. Then, Dior decided to bring this style back out of the archives and remake the style once again. When I bought my black version from the Dior boutique, I paid £2,400. Now if you were to go onto the Dior website and purchase the same item it would cost almost £3,500. That shows that the style is still a popular line for Dior.

The space inside the handbag.

When this handbag had its revival, I went into the Dior boutique as I mentioned above. When I was there, I spend almost an entire afternoon prancing around with different size bags on my arm. I wanted to make sure that I was getting the perfect handbag for my collection that would stand the test of time. All of the Saddle bags that I have in my collection are the large size. I find that with this I can fit in all of my essentials. Including my phone, keys, wallet, makeup and much more. It is plenty big enough without it being too oversize for an evening bag.

The practicality.

I think once you are onboard with the size of the handbag, the practicality really comes down to the material of the bag and how it is carried. So generally, the Saddle bag comes with a small shoulder strap attached. It is easy to use and with this always looks classy. However, you can purchase longer cross-body straps to make the item more versatile. Plus, the great thing about the longer straps is that you can add them to any bag when you have bought them. Then for the rest of it, it comes down to common sense. Leather bags are much more durable if they are a pebbled leather. Material bags are always going to be more delicate and susceptible to damage.

Compared to other items.

If you have visited my site for some time, you will know that the Saddle isn’t the only designer item that I have in my closet. Over the years I have amassed quite a collection of stunning designer handbags. When I think about this Dior Saddle in comparison to some of the others, I still love it. Even when I compare it to my Hermes Mini Kelly or the Chanel Double Flap bag, this is still an incredibly strong contender. Especially when I think about how much I have worn this and how many compliments I still get on it to this day.

As always, I hope you guys enjoyed reading this post on my Dior Saddle Bags. It has been a long love affair since the first time I saw Carrie Bradshaw carrying one in Sex and the City. I think regardless of whether these bags are current trend items or not, they will remain in my closet. For me, this style of handbag is a real heritage piece for the brand and so important to the overall brand identity of Dior. Fashion is very fluid for me and I am not ruled by what is currently trending, so I know that I am going to continue to wear and love these handbags for as long as possible.

If possible, I will link to the items that I have mentioned below. Please do leave me a comment and let me know what you think about the Dior Saddle bag. Would you like to be the owner of a classic Dior Saddle?
