Today I am going to be reviewing the foundation the interested me simply because of the price tag. I am obviously walking about the La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation. There was a period a while ago, when everybody seemed to be using this. And by everybody, I mean all of the celebrity makeup artists.

I think it was after Makeup by Ariel used it on Shay Mitchell, I became desperate to try it out for myself.  I toyed with the idea of picking this up for a long time. I would add it to my basket, but then when I saw the astronomical price in my cart, I would back out of the decision. But in the end, I talked myself into it and decided to put it through its paces. I want to let you guys know if this is worth the cash!

Why I wanted this foundation.

As I mentioned above, one of the main reasons why I wanted this foundation was because I was influenced. I was seeing this foundation being used all over the show and people were looking amazing as a result. But beyond that, I want to share if this foundation really does deserve the high price tag associated with it. I find it very hard to imagine that any liquid foundation would ever be worth this kind of money. So, I want to share with you my full review so you can make your mind up for yourself.

The packaging.

I know that when it comes to a foundation that the packaging is not the be all and end all. But when a foundation costs as much as the La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation, I want fancy ass packaging. I know its pointless, because when its empty it will just go in the bin. But for over £100, I want a little bit of luxury. I will admit that this bottle is pretty nice. It feels luxe with the frosted glass packaging, and it is nice and weighty. But then when I compare that to the likes of the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, it isn’t all that different.

The coverage.

If I had to try and pin down the coverage of this La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation, I would say that it is medium. With one light coat I have a decent amount of coverage. But it certainly doesn’t leave my skin looking flawless and perfected. But since trying this out, I have tried to build it up to a more full coverage. I feel like you can get a more full coverage application, but it comes at a cost. Essentially, it can make the skin feel heavy. With two layers of this, you are very aware that you have makeup on. That is never a feeling that I want to go for. But if you are happy with a medium coverage, it applies and feels nice.

The shade range.

One thing that I like to mention when reviewing a foundation is the shade range. Obviously over the years, pressure has been on brands to expand their ranges to be inclusive. However, I feel like La Mer missed the memo. The La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation only comes in around 15 shades and out of those around 4 of them are deep. It is an improvement from a number of years ago, but they still have a long way to go before been deemed as an inclusive brand. I actually really struggled to find my perfect shade because I have olive undertones, and all of these were pretty warm for me.

The longevity.

When I apply this foundation and I set it with powder, it is locked in and ready to go. Since investing in this foundation, I have really put it through its paces. I have used this on the warmest of days when I have been sweating and on cold rainy days. No matter what I throw at this foundation, it performs wonderfully and stays flawlessly in place. Generally speaking, I don’t have a problem with my makeup lasting, but I can experience it breaking up around my nose. But that isn’t the case with this item. It applies well, sits great and looks amazing.

Would I repurchase?

As you can see from this post, I have really been enjoying this La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation. I think everything about it is exceptional. But as I get to the end of the bottle, I have been thinking about whether or not I’m going to repurchase. If money wasn’t an object, it would be a no brainer that I would go ahead and buy another bottle. And even though I have enough money to buy this again, just through principal I don’t know if I can justify it. I have other foundations in my collection that are around the £30 mark that perform just as well as this foundation.

As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post about the La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation. This is a stunning foundation. There is no getting away from that. The quality of the product really is exceptional. But at the end of the day, I don’t think it is anything revolutionary. I certainly don’t think it is worlds apart from other foundations that I have in my collection. I would probably repurchase this La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation if it was around the £50 mark. But to spend over £100 on this foundation is a little too much for me. But, I would love to hear your guys opinions on this. Have you tried the La Mer Soft Fluid Foundation? Would you like to get your hands on it and try it out?
