My Minimalist Closet, Maximum Style

There was a time when my wardrobe was overflowing, yet I still felt like I had nothing to wear. Hangers packed tightly together, impulse buys lurking at the back, and pieces I had completely forgotten about. It looked impressive, but it was anything but functional.

Over the years, I have completely changed the way I approach my wardrobe. I am far more intentional now. Sustainability plays a huge role in that, but so does practicality. I want pieces that work hard, that can be styled in multiple ways, and that actually earn their place. What I have now is smaller, yes, but infinitely more effective.

White Linen Shirt

If there is one item that proves the power of simplicity, it is a white linen shirt. This is easily one of the most worn pieces in my wardrobe because it works for almost every occasion without needing much thought.

I tend to reach for it in the summer with a denim mini skirt for an effortless, put together look. It also layers beautifully over swimwear or under blazers when the weather shifts. Mine is years old and still going strong, which is exactly what you want from a capsule piece. It is timeless, reliable, and never feels like the wrong choice.

Cashmere Jumpers

I am permanently cold, so knitwear is not optional in my life, it is essential. Cashmere jumpers are one of those investments that pay for themselves over time because of how often they are worn.

I lean towards more fitted styles so they still feel polished rather than bulky. They work just as well with tailored trousers as they do with jeans, which makes them incredibly versatile. Brands like M&S, Joseph and John Lewis have been staples in my collection, offering quality that holds up year after year without losing shape or softness.

Basic Tops

Basics are the foundation of everything I wear, and I have become far more selective about them over time. A good selection of ribbed vests, long sleeve tops and relaxed t shirts can carry an entire wardrobe.

I used to buy cheaper versions without thinking, but I have shifted towards higher quality pieces that last longer and feel better on the skin. Not only does that improve the overall look of an outfit, but it also aligns better with my approach to sustainability. When your basics are strong, everything else becomes easier.

Black Skinny Jeans

No matter how trends evolve, black skinny jeans remain a constant in my wardrobe. They are one of those pieces that always feel right, regardless of the season or occasion.

I can dress them up with a blouse and heels for work or keep things casual with a t shirt and trainers. They suit my shape, they are comfortable, and they require very little effort to style. While they may not be the current favourite among younger trends, they have earned their place in my wardrobe without question.

Blue Boyfriend Jeans

If black skinny jeans are my reliable staple, then blue boyfriend jeans are my off duty favourite. They bring a more relaxed energy to an outfit while still looking considered.

My go to is a classic pair of Levi 501s, which strike that perfect balance between structure and ease. They pair effortlessly with basics and trainers, creating a look that feels undone in the best way. It is the kind of piece that makes getting dressed feel easy rather than overwhelming.

Work Dresses

Working in an office means I need pieces that are practical, polished and easy to throw on without overthinking. Dresses have become my solution to that.

I tend to stick to A line shapes that are comfortable but still flattering. They can be belted for structure or worn loose depending on how I feel that day. Having a small rotation of reliable work dresses means I never have to stand in front of my wardrobe second guessing myself at 7am, which is a win in itself.

Miniskirts

Miniskirts are one of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe. They work across seasons and can be styled in ways that feel completely different depending on the occasion.

In warmer months, I wear them with simple tops and sandals, while in winter they pair perfectly with tights and boots. Brands like Reiss and AllSaints have consistently delivered pieces that feel both wearable and elevated. The key is finding a length and fit that works for you while still feeling appropriate for different settings.

White Trainers

When I am not working, you will almost always find me in white trainers. They are the easiest way to make an outfit feel relaxed while still looking put together.

I tend to rotate between Converse and Golden Goose, depending on the look I am going for. Paired with jeans and a basic top, they create that effortless style that looks intentional without trying too hard. Comfort is key here, but so is finding a pair that holds its shape and cleans up well.

Black Heels

As much as I love a statement heel, a classic pair of black pumps is essential. They are the kind of item that you can rely on for almost any occasion without hesitation.

I have had my current pair for years, and they still look as good as new because I take care of them. Investing in quality here makes all the difference. A well made pair of black heels will carry you through work events, evenings out and everything in between.

Tan Sandals

When the weather warms up, tan sandals become my default. There is something about them that instantly makes an outfit feel lighter and more summery.

Whether flat or heeled, they pair beautifully with everything from dresses to denim. I have tried other summer shoes over the years, but I always come back to this style. They are simple, elegant and dependable, which is exactly what a capsule wardrobe calls for.

Final Thoughts

What I have learned over time is that more does not equal better when it comes to your wardrobe. It is about having the right pieces, not the most pieces.

With these staples, I know I can create countless outfits without feeling overwhelmed or uninspired. Of course, I still have the occasional standout piece tucked away, but the backbone of my wardrobe remains consistent. I would love to know how you approach your own wardrobe. Are you a capsule advocate, or do you prefer having endless options?
