I know that this blog will probably make me sound like I am 26 going on 804 years old. But I have to put it out there that I am simply not a fan of social media in general. Don’t get me wrong, I used to be. There was a time when I was tweeting every day and uploading to my Instagram story like the world was ending.

I can actually remember being in my early teenage years when the likes of Facebook first came about. I loved them so much and used to spend hours scrolling through and making my feed look pretty. Even before Facebook, it was the likes of Bebo and Piczo that I fell in love with. I have to say that my love for these things was relatively short-lived. But I feel like I can’t be the only person to feel like this.

This day and age are that people are so out of touch with reality because they are living in this alternative social world on their phone. It is just something that I do not want to be involved with. I understand that not everybody feels like this. Some people live relatively normal lives alongside their social networks. But I know so many people, the same age of me, some of which that I would even call friends and they are completely consumed by their online presence. Also, how other people see them and judge them online and I just feel like it is a really sorry turn of events. People are so much more than their profiles. Because of feeling like this, I decided that the best thing to do was just to distance myself from social media.

I will admit that I do occasionally use Instagram because I am a very visual person. But even though I only do it to share the odd picture that I may like here and there. I never do all of the ‘blogger’ things that I should probably do in order to gain a following. At the end of the day I am just far too lazy and it doesn’t interest me enough to want to do it. I also like Instagram because it is good for following the likes of fashion brands or some of the bigger bloggers that I get outfit inspo from. That is the extent of it really. Yet again, I am fully aware of how this may make me sound. I just don’t feel like I fit in with the new digital world.

To sum up I just wanted to write this blog post really to connect with people.. These are my reasons why I don’t care about social media. I want to see where other people feel like they fit into this ultra-modern society where our lives are lives via our phones. I just don’t feel personally like I fit into the online space of social media. To be honest, I am fine with that. When I see how other people use and abuse the networks, I don’t really want to be on them.

Do you like social media? Could you be without it? How much time per day do you spend on your phone?
