I have been blogging for hell of a long time. Some may say that I have been blogging for far too long. However, due to my extensive time working within this space, I have come to learn a thing or two. Some things I have purposely set out to learn and other things I have been forced to think about and adapt to as the years have gone by.
In this post I am going to share with you four pieces of blogging advice that I wished I had known much sooner in my career. Perhaps if I had known these things, I wouldn’t have fallen down so many times in my blogging history. However, it is all about learning skills, adapting and aiming for smoother sailing in the long term.
Understand SEO.
You will always hear me banging on about SEO. For any site, you need to have a basic understanding of SEO. The list of what you can do in terms of SEO is as long as your arm, but get a grasp on the basics, keep going and you will soon see the benefits. Here on my site, I have wrote a few posts over the years about the steps you can take to improve your SEO and I would highly recommend going ahead and checking them out.
Â
Keep going.
One of the most important things that I absolutely need to mention high up on this post is that you need to keep going. Keep writing, keep sharing and keep blogging. As the name of my site implies, it hasn’t always been straightforward for me. There have been times that I have struggled to see the purpose of my site and I have wanted to throw in the towel. However, I kept going. Kept showing up and I was determined to make something of my site.
Â
Be consistent.
This is similar to my above point, but once you keep going, it is important to gain some structure and be consistent. Not only is this good for your audience to understand when new content is coming, it is also beneficial for search engines, and it will therefor improve SEO as I have mentioned above. Consistency is key to so much in live and the same can be said when it comes to blogging. Absolutely imperative to success.
Â
Be social.
Blogging for as long as I can remember, has been about community. Don’t get me wrong, some of that community feel has been lost over the years. However, there is no denying for those that are involved in the community, you see a benefit for it. Whether it is meeting new people that understand the complications of running a site, getting your posts to a new audience or even seeing inspiration. There is a massive benefit to being social in the blogging space.
As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post about the key pieces of blogging advice that I would give people. There are small things that you can do that help to make a big difference to your site. The list of improvements really is infinite. However, it is about analysing the things that will be the most impactful to your site and ensuring that you are sticking to them.
