You may have realised that a couple of months ago, I disappeared from the blogging community. The aptly named ‘Reluctant Blogger’, needed some time away due to mental health. My OCD was really kicking my ass for a period, and I needed to reduce stress and pressure. Hence my decision to shelf my blog and come back to it at a later date. If you do want to learn more about my decision to take some time, I will link my previous post here.

It felt quite poetic for my return to the blogging realm to be today as it is World Mental Health Day.

If you have followed my blog for some time, you will know that mental health is a passion of mine. Not only do I struggle with my own mental health, I advocate for other people. I want everybody to feel comfortable talking about their difficulties and to educate people on how to communicate about mental health. It is something that we all need to understand, be mindful of and be empathetic to one another.

I don’t want to write this post today to preach to you guys about my own mental health. I could speak forever and a day about my mental health and some of the things that I go through. But on World Mental Health Day, I want to ensure that you guys seek help if you need it.

Help for mental health can come in all different formats. Whether you want to speak to the GP, seek private help or even just unload onto your nearest and dearest. There are no rules for speaking about mental health and the struggles that you are going through. Just please ensure that you are speaking to somebody.

I can remember the first time I spoke to the GP. For me, it was like a lightbulb moment. Everything just clicked and I had a breakdown on the phone because it felt like the stars were aligning and I was on a path to getting the help that I needed.

The only thing that I want to drive home today, on World Mental Health Day is for you to seek the help that you need. I know it is hard. I know at times it seems like it is pointless. But take control, make a positive change and share the load.
