You should know after my last few posts that I am a sucker for anything with a Hermes hot stamp. For a long time, I tried to tell myself that I didn’t like the items that Hermes sold. However, I think that was somewhat of a defence mechanism for my severe lack of money when I was growing up. This bag felt so incredibly out of my reach that I couldn’t ever imagine owning one. Because of that, I told myself that I didn’t like Hermes. I then invested in my Hermes Mini Kelly last year and I was hooked within an instant. It was only a matter of time until I got the ultimate handbag, the Hermes Birkin. Here are my thoughts on this truly stunning item.
Why I wanted this item.
I’ve grown up a true fashion lover. When other girls were reading Girl Talk, I was reading Vogue. I would see the likes of the Chanel Double Flap Bag and the Hermes Birkin splashed all over the pages. It made me desperate to own them. They remained on my radar, even though they were incredibly out of reach. Since that day, it has always been the dream bag, but one that every much remained on my wish list!
The specification of my Hermes Birkin.
I got my Hermes Birkin in the size 35. I was contemplating with a 30, but I wanted more space so that I could use it for work. The leather I wanted was Togo as I had researched online and that was what people seemed to say the best things about. Then for the colour, I wanted the classic gold, which is the beautiful tan shade that you see all over the internet. Match that the gold hardware and you have my dream item!
How I got a hold of this item.
In late 2023, I decided to go ahead and try my luck in Hermes. I was having a shopping day in London and while I was on Bond Street, I decided to waltz into the Hermes boutique. I met with my wonderful sales associate, who helped me get my Mini Kelly. Before I knew it, I was sitting in a room, sipping champagne and crafting my Hermes Birkin wish. Only three months later I got a call to say that my wish had been granted and to get my ass to London to collect my dream handbag.
How much this cost me.
As I mentioned above, I purchased this item directly from Hermes. That means that I didn’t need to pay the extortionate resale price that you often see online. However, that doesn’t mean that this item was a bargain by any means. I paid around £9,300 items for this item. Yes, it is a truly eyewatering amount. If you had ever told me that I would be able to spend this much on a single handbag a few years ago, I would have told you to fuck straight off. Yet here I am and I couldn’t be happier with this addition to my collection!
The practicality of the item.
Because I got the size 35 in the Birkin, it is an incredibly practical item. I can wear this item for work, and it fits everything I need, even including my laptop. Because of that, I find this to be incredibly practical and suitable for my needs, in work and outside of work. I honestly couldn’t ask for more from an item. When I think of everything that I need for a bag of this kind, there is nothing that I feel like I am lacking when it comes to the beautiful Hermes Birkin.
How much I’ve used it.
When I first bought this item, I thought that I wouldn’t use it half as much. I thought that because it was so expensive, I would treat it like it was made out of glass and not dare take it out the house. However, after I used it once and broke that seal, I was happy to use it again and again. Since getting this, I have logged it on my fashion app almost 80 times. Which when compared to some of the other items in my closet, it is hell of a lot.
Would I recommend this Hermes Birkin?
When I think about this Hermes Birkin, I have to review everything. Is it a practical item and is it really worth the price tag. I have to say that without a doubt, this is an item that I would recommend. That is of course only if this item is within your budget. No handbag is worth getting into debt. However, should you be able to afford this product, I would say go for it. You will not only get to enjoy an amazing item. You will have a true investment piece.
