For today’s post, I am going to chat to you guys about what I think before making a high-end purchase. From reading my blog, you guys will probably think that I am quite happy with my cash. As much as I love treating myself to lovely high-end items, I am also very frugal. I am so incredibly grateful for every single high-end piece that I own, but it didn’t come without hard work.
When I was growing up, never in a million years did I think that I would be able to buy the items that I am now picking up. Because of that and my Yorkshire upbringing, I am cautious with my money. I make sure that every high-end purchase has been thoroughly thought through and I want to share with you my thought process before jumping in with both feet to add something new to my collection.
Think how much use the item will get.
As much as I truly do adore buying special items and adding a high-end purchase to my closet. The prime example here is my pink velvet Lady Dior bag. The truth is that it is not entirely practical. That means that it spends more time on a shelf than in my hand, which kills me. For me, an item needs to be worn and loved. I want my items to be worn left, right and centre. The best example of this for me is the Dior Book Tote. I bought this handbag because I knew I could wear it almost constantly. For work, it is essential to fit my laptop in. For travel, I can fit a full-size blanket in and be snuggly. Not to mention that for weekends away I can fit everything I need in here for 3 days. I use that thing to death!

Will I get my money’s worth out of it?
I feel like all of the points that I am going to mention in this blog post tie into one another. Following on from my first point, I need to make sure that I am going to get my money’s worth out of my items. I actually have an app on my phone where you log your outfits, and it tells you the price per wear for each item. I believe my Chanel Double Flap Bag is now worth around £2 per wear. That alone tells you how much I have worn that item. To be honest, I don’t always aim to get price per wear that low. I just want to make sure that it will not be a wasted purchase collecting dust on my shelf. That is a mistake that I have made before with trend pieces and I don’t want to do it again.
Â
Can it be worn in a number of ways?
Something incredibly important to me is if the item can be worn in a number of ways. I think for this my Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis is the ideal item to talk about. I know that when it comes to this handbag, I can wear it in a whole variety of ways. This item will look great with a mini dress and a pair of thigh-high boots in the winter. Yet it will look right at home with a pair of jeans and a basic T-shirt during the warmer summer months. This all comes back to getting my moneys worth out of an item, but I like my handbags to be as versatile as possible. Then again, it is not just my handbags that I take this view, the same goes for everything in my closet.
Â
Is it going to be a timeless piece?
Whatever it is that I am adding into my closet, I want to make sure that it is a timeless piece. I do this for two reasons. The first is that I want the longevity out of the item. I want to ensure that the item that I am parting a lot of cash with is going to last the test of time. I don’t want anything to be a fleeting trend item that is in one season and gone the next. It can be hard to spot a timeless piece that will be around forever and a day. I feel like when you know, you know. The other thing is that I have a super simple look going on. I like pairing basics and timeless aspects to create a look that will always look chic, even when looking back in photographs!
I hope that you guys liked this blog post and got to learn what I think about when making a high-end purchase. This can really help somebody out if you want to make an investment purchase. Early on in my career when I started earning my own money, I was desperate to spend it on designer goods.
I probably dipped my toe into the luxury pool just a little too soon. So, I want to advise people to exercise a little caution. I think that above everything that I have mentioned, just ensure that it is within budget and you are living within your means. Do not get in debt for anything luxury, it is not worth the hassle. As always, make sure to leave me a comment down below. Let me know what you think and what your thoughts are!
