Since I first began blogging, well over 10 years ago, it has changed exponentially. There is a generation of bloggers out there, much like me that started their first site with the intention of sharing the odd post here and there. Never in a million years would it have crossed my mind that I could one day make a living from my site and the content that I create. However, I am very aware that in this day and age, people get into this game with the sole intention of making money. So, I figured that in this post I would share with you some of the ways that I have made money from my site.

Sponsored posts.

One of the biggest drivers of income for bloggers can be sponsored posts. For me, that normally involves speaking to a brand that I align well with, coming to a commercial agreement and then generating written copy that is sharable and engaging for my audience. How much I can charge for this really depending on how much creative freedom they allow me to have and the reach that a typical post of mine can generally reach.

Google Ads.

Here on my site, you will see small banners bads by the side of the post which shows advertisements generated from Google. These are normally tailored to the individual via remarketing and AI. That means that if you are seeing adverts on my site, there is a high probability that it will be from a site that you have previously visited. You don’t get much money from these unless you drive high volumes of traffic to your site. But then they can be very insightful.

Affiliate links.

I feel like a couple of years ago, affiliate marketing really took off. If you ever see a link to a product on my site, the chances are it will be an affiliate link. That means, if you guys make a purchase via a link that you have clicked on my site, I will earn a commission. It costs you guys no more, but it just means that the retailers have to pay me a very small percentage for driving business in their direction. This was a game changer for me and my site.

Speaking engagements.

With age and experience comes new opportunities and in recent years I have been asked to give my professional opinion during a range of speaking opportunities. Through this, I have been able to work with some of the best brands in the world and it knocks me off my feet that I am given these amazing chances to prove myself and share my knowledge. Usually for these kind of things, I am given a set fee depending on how in depth they want me to go and the audience numbers.

Selling physical products.

A while ago, to be honest, it was rather a long time ago, I released a campaign on my site. I didn’t expect to get so much traction and before I knew it, I was becoming well known for this one thing. Somebody tht commented on my site left me a comment and said that I should drop ship merch to back up my campaign and after looking into it, I decided to go ahead. Needless to say, never in a million years did I expect that I would be able to actually sell products, but I was quickly proven wrong. I did a small, limited batch, but my god did it sell. I was just fortunate that I had a good hook that really enticed people and got them spending.

Coaching.

Because I have been in this space for so long, it reached a point where I was getting countless questions from people. I was all of a sudden asked my opinion on things in the blogging space and what the best practice is for different aspects of digital creating. That then quickly turned into my opening a branch of my business into coaching new creators in the space. I earn a set fee for reviewing sites and then I provide insightful input onto what can be done to further optimise. The only reason why I am given these opportunities is because I have worked my arse off in the space and kept at my site for so long.

Freelance writing.

I have shared here on my site about the freelance writing that I do. I work with a small bank of clients and produce content for them on an ad hoc basis. There is no denying that without this site, I would not have been given that opportunity. This site is a showcase of my work and gave me an elevated platform to sell myself to my potential clients. It all started by making a blog and sticking at it.

As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post and learning more about some of the ways that I have made money with my site. I am sure that there are loads more ways of making money with your digital space, but this is what I have done and what has worked for me. Be sure to leave me a comment below and let me know some of the ways that you have made money with your site and share it with the group below. The great thing about blogging has always been the community feel and sharing knowledge is imperative to that.
