Today I am going to spend some time sharing with you my newborn essentials. The things that I have found myself reaching for and using countless times. For me, these are the items that I would happily repurchase if I was going through the early days of motherhood all over again. They managed to make my life a little bit easier during a period when my world had been tipped on top of its head. That makes each of these items a wonderful godsend and I am incredibly grateful for how much smoother they made the day run. Nothing revolutionary, nor too expensive, but they were very impactful products for me as a new mother!

Travel system.

To those of you that don’t opt for a travel system, I have to question why. We got a Silver Cross Travel System and it has been fucking fantastic. We have the ISOfix base in the car and then our babies car seat easily unclips and then goes onto the pram. A lifesaver. I can remember back in the day when my sister would sit in the car for hours because she didn’t want to wake her baby that was asleep in the car seat because she would have to pick them up out of the seat. There are so many different solutions on the markets these days. Have a shop around and see what works for you with the right number of items.

Travel pack and play cot with changing facility.

We have a fairly big house. The nursery is on our third floor, and I generally relax in our snug on the ground floor. Quite a distance from the nursery. So, I went ahead and bought a classic pack and play. I thought that this would be better for the baby than a classic Moses basket and that our baby would fit in it for longer as most babies tend to outgrow Moses baskets fairly quickly. The amazing thing about the pack and play is that it came with inserts for the top. For I have a shelf that holds all baby changing things, space to change the baby when needed and a curved seat for the baby that cradles them during the newborn stage. I am loving it!

Nappy changing caddy.

I have seen so many people doing this recently and it is amazing. I bought a little felt caddy from Amazon, I think it only cost me a few pounds. Then I pack it with nappies, wipes, creams and just about everything that we could need around the house. It means that whenever we need to change a nappy, we don’t need to trapse up our three-story house into the nursery. It also helps if we are dropping our little baby off with grandparents because we just pass them this and it has everything in that they need.

DocAtot.

A Docatot is essentially something that you lay your baby in to ensure that they cannot roll anywhere and get in harm’s way. This for me, has been bloody amazing. It is easy enough to carry with you here, there and everywhere. It means that I can have some independence from the baby without worrying. I can remember when I was growing up with younger cousins, we would do something rudimentary for this purpose using pillows from the sofa or a duvet. But as you can imagine that wouldn’t work in this day and age, it would be deemed highly unsafe!

Dummies.

When I first got pregnant, my sister asked me if I was going to give my baby a dummy. She was strictly no dummy when it came to her children. Both of her children were really well behaved, even without a dummy, but you could see that there were times when they needed a little extra soothing because they didn’t have a dummy. Whereas my cousin gave her baby from when she was newborn until around 18 months old and she was amazing at self-soothing and calming. For me, I opted for a dummy, and it has been a godsend. My rule is that no dummy unless it is sleeping time!

Onesies with zips.

One of my friends bought me a set of baby growers with zips on. In the beginning, I was a little unsure about them, just because they were different to conventional baby grows on the market. However, I quickly fell in love. They are so much easier and quicker than standard baby grows with poppers on. Plus, I think with the folded over fabric around the zip, they much look cuter on face value than the ones. Anything to make your life easier. Plus, if you have longer nails, these are a gem!

Bedside cot.

It was my cousin that told me to get a bedside cot. So, that is exactly what I did. I actually got mine from Facebook Marketplace. Somebody was selling a brand new one, still in the box and never used. It probably cost me £20. I love that it can be super close to the bed, with the mesh side so that I can just peer inside when I am losing my mind with panic during the middle of the night. In the early days, I would have this butt right up against the bed, but as the months have gone in, I have felt more comfortable inching it away a little.

As always, I hope you guys enjoyed reading this post about some of my newborn essentials. Before I gave birth, I researched everything that I may need, and I purchased just about every recommendation that I was given. However, if I had my time again, I would keep things much more concise. The thing to remember is that everything is so accessible these days, if I really needed anything else, I could have ordered it one day and received it the next.
