Since I began looking at fashion/beauty content online, the internet has changed massively. If I cast my mind back, it must be around 15 years since I first began to consume blogger/vlogger content online.
Every now and again, I cast my mind back to those simpler days of the internet and long for that old content to make a comeback. I figured that if I was feeling this way, others must be thinking that same. Which is why in this post I am going to share with you the content that I miss seeing on the internet. The things that I want to come back!
Unboxings.
Call me old fashioned, but I loved good old-fashioned unboxings. Nowadays I will still catch some of these in shortform either on Reels or TikTok. But I think that one thing that I have noticed is that unboxings don’t seem incredibly popular anymore. People want content handed to them on a plate and forcing somebody to wait to watch a box ribbon been slowly pulled open can quickly lose an audience. People want everything so quick that we are losing some of the mystery in slowly unveiling something.
Â
Hauls.
Nowadays people don’t seem to do hauls like they used to. I think many people saw them as being very wasteful and to a degree that influencers were gloating about what they could afford. Whereas I do agree that people shouldn’t buy hoards simply to film a video, but there is also a level of consumer advice that we are missing from these videos. I love to see hauls, where people are trying items and reviewing items and then either keeping or returning. I think that hauls could still be successfully uploaded with consideration in mind.

Get ready with me.
People may argue with me but I stand firm that this should be mentioned in the content that I miss seeing on the internet. Even though people so still upload these, they don’t seem as authentic as they used to. Nowadays when people upload these, they are normally packed with paid promotion. Which makes it hard to identify what products are there for genuine reasons and what the influencer has been paid to talk about. I want good old fashioned, back in the day, no big product, simple posts.
Â
Collaborations.
Oh my lord, there used to be nothing better than seeing two worlds collide with collaboration videos. These used to be super popular within the YouTube beauty world. I can remember there was a phase where all the Australian beauty gurus were getting together and it was rocking my world. It made me laugh how uncomfortable they all looked with the forced friendships, and I loved to watch them. Every now and again, we are treated to something similar to old school collabs with people like In The Frow and Allana, but I need them more often!

What’s in my bag.
I don’t know why classic ‘What’s In My Bag’ videos has such a choke hold over me. But I love these videos. Back in the day I used to be so excited whenever people would share these, and I would race to watch them. Most of the time, there was nothing exciting. I just loved getting to be nosey. Plus, it made me realise that most of us are tramps with our handbags and we all have used chewing gum in a tissue at the bottom of our bags!
As always, I hope you enjoyed reading about the content that I miss seeing on the internet. I feel like everything back in the day was much simpler. Who would have thought that so many of us would sit and happily watch people pull old receipts out of their handbag. But I loved that shit. In an ideal world, I want the gossip channels to go away. ThenI want the good old days of internet content to come back. Whether it be written word posts or good old-fashioned videos from YouTubers. Leave me a comment below and let me know what you want to make a comeback!
