As the end of my pregnancy nudges further into sight, the nesting has well and truly begun. I didn’t think that I would ‘nest’, because technically I clean my house top to bottom continuously and I live a very minimalist lifestyle. However, last weekend I had an itching feeling to turn my life upside down, clear everything out and reorganise every aspect of my life. In this post I am going to share with you some of the things that I have done to nest and prepare for our little baby.
Worked through each room and cleared out clutter.
As I mentioned above, I am quite opposite to a hoarder. I barely allow anything to stay in my home. My husband actually says that I am far too cutthroat when it comes to binning things and clearing items from our home. But my nesting began with sorting through each room. I went through every cupboard, wardrobe and chest of drawers. I binned everything that I wasn’t overly attached to or that didn’t serve me in my life.

Had each carpet professionally cleaned.
I love that throughout our home, we have wooden floors pretty much throughout. However, there are still a few rooms where we have carpets, including on the stairs. One of my friends runs a professional cleaning company and she had a new device that she wanted to use, and I said that our carpets would be the perfect test. Trust me, this was possibly the most satisfying thing we have ever had done. Moving forward we are planning on having it done once per year.

Deep cleaned every room.
While all the furniture had been moved from the rooms for the carpet clean, we did a deep clean. The bigger things such as cleaning down walls where needed. Dusting all corners. Cleaning the skirting boards. We wanted every single room to be a perfect blank canvas before the room was put back together. Because I do this pretty regularly, it wasn’t too much of a big task. However it felt good to tick it from my list.

Planned easy to wear outfits.
People have told me that I won’t care how I look after having my baby. But I am the kind of person that feels better when I look and feel good. So with that being said, I have planned out some comfortable post-partum outfits that I can quickly throw on. Simple things like leggings with my Anine Bing sweatshirts, etc. Just outfits that will get me out of my pyjamas and make me feel slightly better during a turbulent period of my life.
Â
Popped must have baby items in each room.
There are 3 or 4 rooms in our home where we will predominantly be with the baby. So to try and make things easier, we have set up caddies in each room with the essentials. Such as changing mats, nappies, wipes, etc. All of the things that need to be quickly accessible and by doing this it should help to make our life ever so slightly easier. Plus, then if we have anybody taking care of our little baby, we could take a caddy with everything inside that they may need.
As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post about the things I have done to nest. Some things are much larger than others, but the smaller things have made such a difference too. There was a point during all of this where I regretted my decision. Things got worse before they got better. At one stage I had a mountain of work to do and I didn’t think I would be able to get through it all. I would love to hear from you guys on this below. Did you nest during your pregnancy?
Ah yes I am not even pregnant and this happens to me ever so often and I just clean and straighten the whole apartment. You are SO ready, and congratulations on this exciting part of your life!
