It feels so strange to be writing this blog post after so many years have passed. I am coming off the Cerezette Mini Pill for the first time in almost 15 years. I was first put on the pill by my GP when I was only 13 years old to try and reduce my heavy periods. It worked wonders because for me, the mini pill makes my periods stop all together. As the years went on, I used the pill not just to control my periods, but for pregnancy prevention. For the best part of 15 years, I never even crossed my mind to question what the pill was doing to me. For me, it was working and I didn’t think of the health concerns that can be caused by it. Then, the TikTok revolution happened where I saw woman quitting the pill and I joined them.

Why I decided to come off the pill now.

As I mentioned above, my main inspiration came from TikTok. I was seeing hoards of woman that came off the pill and felt on top of the world. Back when I was 18, I did actually come off the pill after splitting from my long-term boyfriend and I felt amazing. My energy levels went up, my weight went down, and I just felt more positive. I want to feel like that again. Not only that, but I don’t understand my own body. Because I don’t have periods with the pill, I am supressing hormones and don’t know my own body functions. My fertility has a huge question mark over it currently anyway, so I needed to know more, and the pill was the first step.

What my husband thought about it.

One of my main concerns was what my husband would think. I knew that he would be accepting of my decision because he always wants what is best for me. I told him that it would involve him wearing condoms and he was fully on board. However, I worried that it would feel strange for him. Sex is a big part of a relationship, and I didn’t want that to change for us and I didn’t want him to enjoy it any less. He never had any worries about it and never said anything, it was my thoughts that caused doubt. He was fully on board for me to make this change.

The research that I did.

Before jumping into it, I did some research. Even though coming off the pill is certainly a good thing because the less hormone altering is certainly best. However, I wanted to make sure that I even weighed up both sides of the argument. We are fortunate that here in the blogging community there are so many women that have gone through this contraception revolution. Ultimately, everything pointed to the fact that I needed to come off the pill. If anything just to see how it made me feel, there was always the option to start taking it again.

My experience since coming off.

Since coming off the pill, things were certainly rocky to begin with. For the first few weeks, I had upset stomach and terrible headache. It basically felt like my body was confused and didn’t know what was happening. A couple of weeks after that I got awful cramping and I thought that may be the start of my periods again. It wasn’t and I am still to get my period. However, I had a chat with my GP and he said that after taking the pill for as long as I have, it can take up to 6 months for them to come back normally. However, I have noticed over the past couple of weeks, my energy has increased and I feel might ‘lighter’, if that makes sense.

I hope that you enjoyed reading this blog post. Contraception is something that is very personal. I know so many women a similar age to myself that love the pill. They have been on it for a duration and have no plan on changing anything any time soon. For me, coming off the pill was challenging in the beginning, but now it is fantastic. I have much more energy, brain fog is gone, and weight is honestly falling off me. I honestly do not think that I will ever go back on hormonal contraception. I feel my best self when I am not on hormones and condoms have worked perfectly well for my husband and me. I would love to hear from you guys on this. Please leave me a comment, let me know your views and perspectives.
