I did a post the other week all about SEO and how to improve your blog. One of the things that I mentioned was the importance of internal and external links. I am the head of a Marketing company at a global healthcare company, so I know a thing or two when it comes to websites and search engines.

I want to share my knowledge, that is why I am writing this blog post today. In this post, I am going to delve into internal and external links. I will share why they are so important, how you can add them and what benefits they may have. When I went through my posts and added these in, my views rocketed.

What Is an Internal Link?

First things first, I am going to talk about what is an internal link. For this, I can use an example of where I use them. For my website, I often write favourite blog posts. I will sit down and round up all of my favourite beauty purchases from the past month. However, the items that I mention in that blog post will probably have its own post on my blog where I gave it a full review. In my monthly favourite round up post, I use internal links, by linking every mention of those products to my own blog post that is already live on my site.

What Is an External Link?

With regards to external links, I can use a similar example of my monthly favourites. In this instance, instead of linking to my own blog post, I will link to a website which is selling that item. So, if I am mentioning five different items in a blog post, I will go on a website like Cult Beauty for example to get some links to add to the products on my post. This is a super easy thing to do, especially if you are talking about products.

Why Do You Need to Use Them?

The reason why you need to use these links on your blog is because it is what search engines want to see. When Google send out their little bots to scan your website, they think sites with lots of links are more trustworthy sources. Internal links allow search engines to understand and rank your website better. External links are important because they pass link ranking power and search engines consider them as third-party voters. Not to mention it creates a path for your visitors and the more clicks your reader makes, the better your site looks.

My Top Tips

One thing that I do have to really stress in this blog post is to make sure that your links are genuine. I can remember one of my friends in the blogging community was asking me what she was doing wrong. She would write her entire blog post, have some great internal links throughout her content. Then at the bottom she just had a list of websites that she liked or shopped on, just to include the external links. Even though we might think that search engine bots are not intelligent, they absolutely are. They can understand if a link has been genuinely placed or just plonked on to score some extra brownie points.

I hope that you guys liked this blog post and it helped you out. As I mentioned, these things are very important, and it really helps to build your site. SEO is a step-by-step process and doing these things can really help. They have made a big difference since I started implementing them here on my site. It is an easy thing to do and something that really does help to benefit the score of your site. I recommend you spend some time, go through old posts and add any links that you think are relevant.
