I first fell in love with makeup well over a decade ago. When I was growing up in my teenage years, it was just as Instagram and YouTube were blowing up. You couldn’t scroll through either of your feeds without makeup tutorials and product reviews. Needless to say, I was hooked and fell in love with everything makeup related. The other day I wrote a blog post all about some of my worst makeup mistakes. You certainly don’t wear makeup for as long as myself, without making some mistakes along the way. In contrast to that blog post, today I am going to share with you how my makeup taste has changed. Just like with anything, things come in and out of fashion. Much of what I loved is now outdated and this is what I am into now!
Less is more.
In every sense of the word, I used to go full glam. I will admit, this was quite a while back. It used to involve layering two foundations, the thickest lashes, the darkest bronzer and so much more. Now, I work in light layers. I use appropriate colors. Not to mention that overall, I just want my entire makeup to look a hell of a lot lighter and brighter. I think that paring everything back actually gives me a much more youthful look overall. I am loving it so far!

Natural and breathable base.
I used to be what they would call a full coverage hoe. If I was wearing base makeup, you better believe that I was going to opt for full coverage. For me, it has always been all or nothing when it comes to applying the base makeup. However, the older I got, the more I felt like it was suffocating my skin. Now, on a daily basis when I am heading to work, I opt for a tinted moisturiser and a medium coverage concealer. It might not give me the most flawless base, but I am sure my colleagues don’t mind if they can see my freckles every now and again.

Lighter around the eyes to open them up.
The mosher in me is always fighting to come out, but now I shy away from the dark eyeshadow. I used to love piling on the super dark eyeshadow and having a vampy look on the daily. As much as I love the grungy kind of makeup, I really don’t need that every single day. Now, I tend to just go for my foundation/concealer on the eyelid and I take my bronzer through the crease as a transition. Opting for the lighter shades just helps to really open up the eyes and makes me look much more accessible and to be honest, friendlier.
Â
Your lips but better lip shades.
I feel like there was a time in my life when everybody was wearing the same lipstick shades. In most instances, many of the most popular lipsticks just weren’t for my colouring. Regardless, because it was the popular thing, I still wore it. It would either wash my lips out and make me look ill by wearing a super bright nude. Or, I would wear a deep shade that made me look just far too grungy. Now, I just embrace natural lip shades. For me, that normally involves MAC Stripdown liner with Fenty lip balm. A natural combination that looks really great.
Â
I don’t combat all-natural oils.
The final thing that I really want to mention is that I no longer try to stop all of my oils. I think this is just one of the things that I am realising with aging. My natural oils will help to slow down the aging process. I still powder all of my face when I get ready in a morning. However, now as the day goes on, I leave my skin to have some natural luminosity. I do however still blot and powder around my nose because I can end up looking like a happy Labrador. I feel like this just helps to give me face a little more dimension!
I hope that you liked this blog post and getting to see how my makeup taste has changed. I feel like this is very much the trend at the moment. Everything is very light on the skin and natural looking. Much like with everything else, I know that we will go full circle again. There will be another day in the future where full coverage is all the range and we are drawing our lips incredibly big. Honestly, I love refreshing my look every now and again. It truly makes me feel brand new again. I hope that you guys liked this blog post. Please do leave me a comment down below. Let me know how your makeup taste has changed. I would love to hear from you!
