It is time for a new beauty post here on my blog. Today, I am going to be speaking all about how to make your makeup last all day. As you can probably tell from my blog, I love all things makeup. Part and parcel of that means that every now and again I will suffer a makeup meltdown. I might have tried a foundation that is too oily for me.
My mascara might be smudging like crazy underneath my eyes. The list is endless to what could go wrong. However, regardless of what I am putting on my face, I always make sure to take these steps. By doing these things, I know that whatever I am using, I have done my part to try and get my makeup to last all day long.
Work in thin layers.
I am mentioning this first because it really is key. For any kind of makeup look, the thinner the layers, the more locked in they can get. If you have piles of foundation on your face, there is a much higher chance that it will be able to move around. For me, especially when it comes to base, I like to work in very thin layers and build up if needed. The same goes for if it is primer, foundation, powder, etc. Thin layers are the way to go. I noticed such a big difference in my makeup from the moment I started doing this.
Â
Use products that work with your skin.
As a makeup lover, this one killed me, but as obvious as it is, it works. I can remember years back, I wanted to try out every single item that came to market. I didn’t care if it was a foundation full of oil or not, I needed to try it out. Only now as an adult that cares more about where my money is going, I realise that is just stupid. I now only look for makeup that I know is going to work for me and my skin. I want to be able to get lots of use out of all of my makeup and that won’t happen if it is not very compatible.
Â
Lock in your oily areas.
Getting older means that I want my skin to look as dewy and youthful as possible. For me, that has meant that as I have stepped into my later twenties, I am staying away from heavily powdering my face. However, I need to go in with some powder for the areas that I am very oily. For me, this is around my nose, in between my brows and on my chin. Just a small touch of powder and these areas look so much more matte, and I know that my face will stay in place as the day goes on. My personal favourite powder is the Laura Mercier Translucent powder.
Â
Use a setting spray.
One thing that I have certainly adopted in later years is the use of a settings spray. Now, in between every single layer of my foundation, I use setting spray. If my foundation is on place and laid down? Setting spray. Fresh layer of powder? Setting spray. Any base layer is always sandwiched between a layer of my Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. It just helps to ensure that every centimetre of my base is not going to move a muscle. This is a big help since I moved away from powdering all of my face.
Â
Blot throughout the day.
This is something that I always do, and that is blot my face. I always carry with me a small Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Finish Powder and I use that to continuously powder around my nose. As soon as I see any of my natural oils peeking through, I blot them away. In some instances, it may be nice to see some of my natural oils, however, if I want my makeup to last, they need to go. Doing this just works so well for me and it means that instead of my makeup lasting and looking good for around 6 hours, it can last 12 hours and see me through the entire day!
I hope that you guys liked this blog post and learned a little about how to make your makeup last all day. As I mentioned, I do these things every single day. I know that no matter what products I am using, these things will help to keep everything locked in place. The last thing that I ever want to happen after spending ages applying my makeup is for it to come off in no time at all. I understand that sometimes, it is bad products that can deteriorate your makeup, but these things really help to prevent that. As always, I would love to hear from you guys. Please leave me a comment below. Let me know how you make your makeup last all day long. I would love to try out some of your techniques!
