My husband and I purchased our first home together back in September of 2019. We are still in the same home now. Over the past three years, our home has undergone a massive transformation. On our first viewing to our home, I fell in love with the entryway of the home. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing astronomically amazing about the space. It was simply such a vast difference to what we had in our previous rental property. In our old house, the front door was on the side of the house, and it opened into the kitchen. It was simply a little lacklustre and I wanted more. Our simple hallway in our current home made me burst with ideas. For me, this space had to be simple, yet inviting. Without more rambling, here is my entryway décor.

What the space used to be like.

I feel like I certainly need to stat this post by describing how the space first looked. When we came for our initial viewing, we couldn’t remember what colour the walls were in the hallway. I think because they had so many pieces of art on the walls, it made it really hard to see and remember. However, when the house was empty and we got the keys, we saw the yellow. Every single thing inside the house was empty. The walls were yellow, the doors were glossed yellow. Everything as far as the eye could see, was yellow. It is also worth nothing, I hate yellow. Especially the bright florescent yellow that was used on all three levels of my new home!

The main changes that we made.

As you can probably guess, one of the first things that I did was de-yellow my house. I whitewashed every single wall, and it took me weeks to do. Then I thought that the space needed warming, so I applied a neutral shade. Then I realised that I in fact preferred it white and repainted it for a third time. Up next, was the flooring. The wooden floor that was originally down was red in tone, I wanted something more natural. So, we changed it and had an oak herringbone floor laid. The next step was the doors, which I painted black along with the banisters up the stairs. It was a bold move, but one that I think paid off.

The furniture that we added.

Because the space is rather small, there isn’t much furniture in there. However, for my entryway décor I knew that I wanted a console table. I wanted a place to have a couple of décor touches, a nice lamp and just have a central place for storage. We found the perfect piece which was actually from Wayfair and it tis in the rest of the home décor very nicely. Then above the console table we went with a large industrial style mirror that I got from Next. It was pretty pricey, but well worth it.

The small décor touches throughout.

For me, a room really comes together in the finishing touches and that was no different with my entryway décor. I have lots of plants, wall art, books and so much more. These always tend to be the last thing that I add to a space. That is because sometimes simply with the wall décor and the futniture, it can dress the space enough. Not to mention that the small décor items can really add up in price and I want to ensure that I have the main things down first!

How the space now feels.

For me now, this small space is a perfect representation of our home decor. I know that this even sounds silly, but it is a quick little snapshot at how lovely the rest of the space is. When we first got our keys and it was bright yellow, I used to be so embarrassed to open the door to people. That has changed now. I open it wide and let people see just how much effort we have put into the space. Crazy I know, but I will continue to do it nevertheless.

I hope that you guys enjoyed seeing my entryway décor. This is actually a pretty lengthy post for a space the size of a postage stamp. Like I said, I wanted my entryway décor to be something very simple and inviting. I wanted there to be design touches throughout that showed what the vibe throughout the rest of the house was like. That is why you have the natural wood floor, the contrasting banister, the use of natural fabrics and so much more. I adore the space and it always puts a smile on my face whenever I walk through the front door. I would love to hear from you guys on this. What do you make of the space? Is there anything that you would have done differently? Or, share with me some of your favourite home décor touches!
