Today I am going to be talking to you all about our master bedroom decor. As you may know, in September of 2019, we got the keys to our first home. It was a difficult ride getting to that stage. We actually started the home buying process two years earlier and it was so hard. We had offers accepted, had to pull not.
Not to mention every other bump in the road in between. One of the first spaces that I really want to make feel like home was our master bedroom decor. No matter what happens through the day, I want to have a base that is just comfort and luxury. I love having this space and it makes me feel so relaxed. For that reason, I thought that I would share all about our master bedroom decor and the changes that we made!
How did the room look?
When we got the keys to our house, it was obvious that it needed an overhaul. The previous couple had really done a number on it. The carpet was heavily stained with makeup and what I can only describe as accidents from babies. The walls were all painted a very deep brown, almost verging on black. It looked like a cave in the middle of the night. Even my incredibly happy and optimistic grandma couldn’t think of anything nice to say. That is how I knew we were in trouble!

The vision for the room?
The only set thing that I had in my mind was that I wanted the space to be very light and serene. I can remember staying in a hotel in the Maldives and everything was bright whites and linen sheets. That was what I wanted to recreate. I knew that it was very long way off, and our budget at the time did not stretch to us getting any external help. I just wanted the space to be light and bright. Now looking back, I do feel like we got the space that I had dreamed of!
Â
The changes that we made.
When we first started decorating the space, it was about emptying it completely and getting it too neutral. We ripped up the carpet and I spent the best part of a week just white washing the walls. Even with the highest quality paint, I still had to go over the walls the best part of six times in order to get the brown to stop showing through. From there, we added a new carpet. Applied ornate wall panelling. Painted our wardrobe doors and added all furniture and soft furnishings.
Â
The things that we bought.
When we bought our first house, we literally had no furniture to our name. We were starting from scratch. As exciting as it was, it was very daunting. For the bedroom, it was the same story. We had to buy the bed frame, which was from the French Bedroom Company. The mattress, bedside tables, storage, décor. Literally everything in the space is newly purchased. If I had to hazard a guess of how much all of the furniture in this room it is probably around the £5,000 mark. Which I don’t think is bad when you think about the longevity of them.
Â
What would I still like to do?
The key thing for me that I would still like to do with this space is just bring it more in line with my tastes now. I am all for warm shades and earthy tones. I think over the next couple of months I may add some more greenery into the room and more neutral fabrics rather than just all white. Other than that, I am really happy with the space. I do think that it still probably needs some extra touches like photo frames, candles, etc. but generally, I like how it is looking.
I hope that you guys liked this blog post and getting to see inside our master bedroom decor. I certainly will not say that it was a quick process to get to this stage. Nor was it a cheap exercise. As I have mentioned before, we moved into this house with no furniture or ‘stuff’. It has taken hell of a lot of work and cash to get the house to a stage where it is beginning to feel full and cosy.
I now feel very happy with this space, but I know that there will be tweaks over the next couple of months to make it my dream. I would love to hear from you guys. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. Do you like the space? Do you love your own bedroom at home?
