Some people out there that have sites simply post just to fulfil a hobby. Others do it because they want to make a career out of their site. Personally, I feel like I sit somewhere in the middle of that. I began many moons ago because I just wanted to share my opinion with people. As the years ticked by, I realised that I could create something different of my site. That was when I began to adapt and change things up ever so slightly.

In todays post, I am going to sit down with you guys and share with you guys the different ways that you can promote your site to gain a broader and new audience.

SEO.

You guys should be familiar with me by now and very aware that I am going to speak about SEO at every given opportunity. For me, SEO is something that you simply cannot escape if you have a digital space, and you want to get increased reach. There is so much that you can do to improve. Small and large tasks. All you have to do is search ‘SEO’ on my site and so many different guides will come up. Just do what you can, but for me, this is the starting point to any site improvement project.

Social media.

Now this is where I should practice what I preach. But I bloody hate social media. As somebody that is approaching 32, I feel like I have road the wave of social media over the years. At different times in my life, I have liked different social media outlets. However, I feel like I have now exhausted them all. But there is no getting away from the amazing benefit that social media can have on your site. If you are posting right, the reach that you can obtain is simply out of this world.

Content marketing.

For as long as I can remember, whenever I have spoken about getting increased reach, I have always banged on about content marketing. This is something that I do here on my site, and in my full-time career. Create marketing tools, which people will find useful. Create guides, downloadable content and so much more that people will want to utilise. Sites that perform the best are always the kind of sites that try to provide people with information and support for the customer.

Email marketing.

This is where I switch over from blogger to professional marketer. I don’t use any form of email marketing for my own site, however in my career where I am the Head of Marketing, it plays a big part in my arsenal. If you want to gain new customers or even reengage with existing customers, you have to utilise a form of email marketing. Some people will say that email marketing is dead, but they are absolutely incorrect. Just ensure that your emails are worthwhile reading and will provide the person on the other end of the screen with some value added content.

Online advertising.

When I say online advertising, there really is a broad spectrum of places where you can advertise. It really comes down to what you are promoting and who your audience is. This can be anything from, Google AdWords, trade sites, similar websites, banner ads, newsletters and so much more. Advertising is very subjective, and you need to be careful where you spend your money as it can end up been a bottomless pit if you aren’t quite hitting the right mark. What you need to think about is your budget and expected conversion.

Influencer marketing.

The term influencer in this day and age is incredibly broad. Some would say that I am an influencer by running this site (however I would have to disagree). But, there is something to be said in this day and age about utilising influencer marketing in order to optimise your level of reach. I have to admit, it isn’t something that I have previously done on my site as I don’t think it would fit with my kind of format, however there are many different sites out there that can massively benefit from influencer endorsement.

Guest posting.

Guest posting is something that you don’t see as much of these days, but there are certainly benefits to it. What I would highly recommend is don’t be scared to ask for further information on their traffic, audience type and much more. You want to ensure that with your time and effort, you are aligning and working with a site that reflects your brand and supports what you are trying to achieve. I must get emails daily for guest posts and very rarely do they fit my suit and match me in terms of metrics.

Partnerships and collabs.

Sometimes that I do when I sign up with a new partnership, is I ask what is in it for me. Beyond initial payment for the work. I am more than willing to go the extra mile for my key partnerships, and I expect them to support me in a similar manner. For me, a partnership or collaboration is a two-way street. In my opinion sometimes something that is better than payment are brands sharing my posts, linking back to my site and helping me get increased reach to their audience.

Create quality content.

The last thing that I am going to mention in this post is probably the most important thing that I am going to say. If you are not creating high quality content, people will not want to visit your site. Or come back. That is very simple and something that I think more people need to understand. You can do all of the things that I have mentioned above, but if you don’t create high quality content that captures peoples attention, it is more or less a pointless exercise.

As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post and learning more about how you can promote your site. These are all things that I have implemented previously in my own sit and seen a big difference to my traffic levels. Because of that, I would highly recommend those of you out there that want to spend some time making improvements, start with the things on this list.

Be sure to leave me a comment below. Let me know what you think with the list that I have shared. Is there anything else that you would add to give people a help in hand?
