Last year on social media, the term ‘girl math’ was been thrown around. For those of you that are unfamiliar, girl math is a form of maths that us females use to justify the things that we spend money on. When the trend first exploded, I loved watching them. Initially I found them entertaining, and I would send them to my friends because they were so funny. But they quickly pointed out that I use girl math for just about everything in my life that I need to throw money on. So, in this post I am going to share with you some of the things that I girl math on a regular basis.

My manicure.

Getting your nails done can be expensive. Especially for me because my nails grow so quick. If I went more than two weeks without an infill, my nails would look crazily overgrown. That means I spend the best part of £100 per month on my fingers. In itself, that seems far too much money. But then think about how much that costs per day. Essentially, it breaks down to around £3.50 per day. Then think about occasions. If I have big occasions, I don’t need to go and get my nails done, because they’re already done! COST SAVING!

My clothes and accessories.

I have a handy dandy app on my phone. Each time I get dressed, I go onto this app, input my outfit of the day and it calculates the cost per wear. Yes, it is extreme, but it helps me to clearly see the items of value in my closet. With that said, I know that I can look on there at things like my Burberry Trench Coat and I know that since adding that to my collection many years ago, I have wore it almost 300 times. That basically does the maths for you. It is all about cost per wear. Then, when you realise you have these amazing core items that have a low cost per wear, it helps you to justify upcoming purchases.

Household décor.

This one, I apply the same logic as what I’ve mentioned above. Think about the amount of use of that thing and then divide it by how many days you are going to have it. A prime example of this is with the console table that I bought for my entryway. This thing that I had seen, just to sit a lamp on and an expensive candle was the best part of £800. Far too fucking expensive. Buttttt…. Girl math. I girl mathed the shit out of that thing. Logically, there are 2 people that live in our house. So, take the cost of the table, £800. Divide it by two, for the two individuals that live in the house, £400. Then, chances are, it will live in our house for probably 5 years, so divide that number by 5. So, with that logical, the table will essentially cost us 20p per day, per person. CHEAP!

My car.

I am a sucker for a new car. I bloody love trading up and getting something new. However, naturally expensive cars cost a bomb. But, just like everything that I have mentioned above, there is a way to girl math it. For starters, I think about the daily cost of owning my car and how much the alternative would have been. Buses, taxis and private jets are all expensive. I just run my little (SUV) and it gets me from A to B for a reasonable price. If I got taxis too and from work each day, it could easily cost me £80 per day. My Mercedes is essentially a bargain. ‘Reasonable price’.

Concert tickets.

I can remember back in the day, when concert tickets were released, the concert would be a few months after. That isn’t the case anymore. Tickets go on sale these days for concerts that aren’t for another 18 months. You cannot try to tell me that by the time the concert actually approaches, that it isn’t free. This happened when I got Taylor Swift tickets. It wasn’t for another 15 months so by the time it swung by, it had been paid off my credit card almost 12 months previous. That’s free as fuck in my book.

As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post and learning more about some of the things that I use girl math for. For me, I certainly don’t need girl math to justify any of my purchases. My husband would never dare mention anything that I chose to spend my own money on. However, I guess it helps to ease my conscious that I am simply not throwing all of my money away on frivolous purchases. As always, I want to hear from you guys in the comments below. Be sure to leave me a comment below and let me know what some of the things are that you girl math.
