When you work in a creative position, you need to ensure that you are always seeking, gaining and obtaining new inspiration. Over the years since I began creating content, there have been many moments when I have sat at my laptop to write something new, and I have been at a loss. Inspiration has completely gone from my mind, and I am in need of finding it once again.

With that said, sometimes I need to hunt it down and over the years I have found where I find inspiration and what gives me a kick up the ass to begin creating once again. In this post I am going to share with you how I seek inspiration and what helps me during those periods.

From my environment.

I am the kind of person that feels incredibly inspired by the environment that I am in. It is because of that reason why I love to travel so much. So that I can soak up new environments, different people and a new outlook. One of the most inspiring places that I have ever been is New York. It will always be a dream of mine to own a place out there and be rich enough to flick between the UK and the states. I can keep dreaming right?

From people around me.

Within this creator space, I am not blind to the fact that I am rather subpar in comparison to some of the truly amazing and incredibly creative people out there. I look to the big names in the space and absorb so much inspiration. I strive to be as professional, big and well known as them one day. Nothing gives you a kick up the arse like some healthy competition and I am so grateful that there are so many women in particular in this space.

From publications and social media.

I have told the tale many times here on my site before but indulge me one last time. There is a story that my father always tells of my sister and I when we were growing up. He would pick us up on a Friday evening and we would walk to the newsagent before settling in for the night. As my sister was buying Girl Talk or Smash Hits, I would be perusing the glossy magazines, usually opting for Vogue as a 6-year-old. It inspired me then and it continues to inspire me now.

From my previous work.

I don’t want to sound incredibly full of myself, but sometimes my own work can be one of my greatest sources of inspiration. When I look back at old posts and realise how far I have come, I can’t help but be inspired by the hard work that has made me get to this point. By looking at that, it dawns on me that writing is an art and I have actually made progress over the years.

From looking ahead and aligning with my goals.

As well as looking at the things around me, sometimes I thrive on looking forward. I look at where I want to be and think about what it will take to get there. From that point, I am able to visualise things, think of a plan and instantly it is like a rocket has gone off inside me. I will always work hard to get to where I want to be and it is often one of my greatest sources of inspiration.

As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post and learning more about the ways that I seek inspiration. It is so important that when you are creating content, that you feel that spark. Without it, the work that you produce can be lacklustre, dull and hard to read. But with just the smallest part of personal inspiration, it can send you flying.

Leave me a comment below and let me know some of the ways that you seek inspiration and how you get going again after reading a creative lull.
