It is that wonderful time of year again. Christmas has gotten more and more special for me as I have gotten older. It used to simply be because of the time off work. However, it is now about spending time with the family. Because of that I thought that I would share with you guys our home at Christmas time. I like to go pretty overboard when it comes to the Christmas decorations. But my intention is to always stay on the classy side of Christmas décor and not branch out into the tacky realm. I thought that I would share with you guys, some of my favourite features and the special areas that we go a little extra.

Three Christmas trees.

The main thing in our home at Christmas time is without a doubt our three Christmas trees. We started out initially with our main tree which is in the formal lounge on the middle floor of our home. It is an extra-large Balsam Hill tree, which I decorate with nothing but fairy lots. Lots of them, it is almost blinding, the simplicity is wonderful. Then, in our snug, I have a slimline tree which I decorate in rustic touches such as feathers, hemp decorations and birds. Then, in our conservatory I have another large Balsam Hill that I have nothing but baubles. They are all perfectly arranged and nothing can be out of place on them!

Wreath and lights around the front door.

The first year that we had the keys to our house, we didn’t do anything to the outside of our home. However, we looked like party poopers because everybody on our street looked like something from a Christmas movie. The following year, we bought a beautiful door wreath with lots of red berries. Then, the year after, we needed a little extra excitement and we added small lights around our porchway. I always said that I would never have lights up, but it is Christmas at the end of the day!

Garlands up the stairs.

I live in quite a large three-story house. For the first year that we were in this house, I knew that I wanted to do something with the stairs that run up the centre of the house. After a while, I settled on adding garlands and lights up the entirety of the staircase. I bought mine from a store called ‘I Love Christmas’, which is very apt. I then wrap them to the banisters using temporary cable ties and I use battery operated lights. It is one of the first things that you see when you walk in the front door and I get so many people complimenting it.

Table décor.

The downstairs of our home is very open plan. As you walk into our front door, if you follow the corridor down, you will be in our kitchen/dining room/conservatory. Our enormous dining table is one of the first things that you see, so I need this to be as Christmassy as possible. My normal flower arrangement is pushed to one side, and I have a mistletoe garland that lines that table. Then, in between the kinks of the garland, I place large church candles that remained lit for almost the entirety of the festive period.

Small touches in every room.

The last thin to try and make my house like something from Whoville is adding small décor touches in every room. Whether that is some lights around the TV, tinsel on the door handle. I love putting small sprigs of mistletoe in the doorways. Just little and subtle things in each and every room. I know that some people think I am crazy for doing it, but I love seeing Christmas in every single room of our home. However, my husband thinks that it is a little extreme!

I hope that you guys enjoyed reading this blog post about our home at Christmas time. This is only a short and sweet blog post, but one that I have loved writing. This is going to be a really special Christmas in our household because we are going to have both sides of the family together. For me, the festivities started as soon as we got to November the 1st and they will not cease until the middle of January. Why not stretch out the happiest time of the year? As always, I would love to hear from you guys on this. What do you think of our home at Christmas? What do you do in your own home at this time of the year?
