For the past few years, I have been trying really hard to get out there a little more and be a social butterfly. I love the thought of going out and having fun. But for me, there is nothing better than a cosy night at home. But back on the 31st of December 2019, I vowed that one of my new years resolutions would be to get out there a little more and make some memories. Low and behold, we were hit with a global pandemic that forced us all to stay home. I feel like it was the universe giving me another year of hibernating in my home. But when we transitioned into 2021, I no longer had an excuse. But being social drains me. I then need to recharge and here is what I do…
Exercise.
Please don’t hate me for this one, but I am an exercise freak. It is true what they say, you will never regret a workout. Every single time I go to exercise, I begin making excuses in my mind. That I didn’t sleep well. I’m too tired. My stomach hurts. And every other excuse in the book. But I have to remind myself that nothing else makes me feel like I have my shit together the way that completing a good workout makes me feel. I now exercise everyday without fail, getting it done and ticked off my list is one of the biggest ways that I reset and recharge.

Date night with the husband.
This sounds soppy and I certainly don’t want to turn any bodies stomach, but my husband helps me immeasurably. Every now and again, he will pull out all the stops. Normally he cooks us something delicious like burritos and he sits me down. From there, he makes me relay everything to him that is whirling around my head. We are both firm believers in a problem shared is a problem halved. This is one of the ways that he encourages me to recharge and I feel so much better for getting things off my chest. Even if he has no understanding and can’t help, just getting the words out helps.

Solo night in the house.
As much as I love time with my husband, I recharge my best when I am alone. Taking time to be in my own company, to do what I want, watch what I want and relax how I want. Usually this will consist of me laying on the sofa underneath a duvet. My golden retriever, Martha, is at my side snoozing on me. On TV it has to be one of my comfort programmes. Usually I go to a specific episode from season 5 of Vampire Diaries where Damon looks particularly dashing. If you know, you know.
Â
Eat all the rubbish food.
I eat very well 99% of the time. Because I exercise so often, I don’t want to undo the hard work by overindulging. But that being said, every now and again it is worth it. My go-to cheat meal is always a Five Guys burger. But I have to collect that and sometimes that is far too much effort. In that instance it is a Indian takeaway that I go for. Usually my order consists of chicken pakora, pilau rice, chicken and spinach Balti with a family size garlic naan. I am starving just thinking about it!
Â
Full pamper routine.
Every now and again I need to do a full reset in order to feel like I have my shit together. So that normally involves shedding every ounce of false tan in a big bath. Then once I am in my fluffy robe, I will begin the pamper. Normally it starts from the toes, and I work my way up. I’m talking pedicure, manicure, brow tweeze, tash wax, full false tan and then a bouncy blow out to finish it off. By the time I am finished I feel like a new person and that is exactly what I need every now and again!
As always, I hope you enjoyed this post learning all about what I do to recharge. I have really loved where I have got to in terms of my social life. There are so many times when I want to say no to plans and sit at home alone, but I really am making the effort. It is just important for me to remember how I recharge my batteries and that for me is staying at home. But we do also need to remember that people vary massively. Just because I recharge in this way, doesn’t mean that everybody does. I know so many that would pull their hair out and feel like a caged lion being home as much as I am, but it works for me.
