For a long time, I have being very honest here on my site and told you guys that for far too long, my skincare routine was severely lacking. Removing my makeup and getting my skin ready to head to bed in an evening used to consist of dragging a Simple wipe around my face.

In my mid-twenties I realised the error of my ways, however I was lost in a sea of skincare and didn’t know where to start. I ended up splurging on hoards of skincare and very quickly realised that I was throwing money away and not learning what was working for my skin. That was until my dermatologist recommended me a simply evening skincare routine and that is what I am going to share with you today.

The first cleanse.

To kick off my simple skincare routine, I use the iconic Elemis Pro Cleansing Balm. I have used this for quite some time and keep going back to it simply because I do enjoy how quickly and easily it breaks down my makeup and allows me to wipe my skin free from product. I have used god knows how many different cleaners over the years and this is my preference. However, I do have a strong love for the Inkey List Fulvic Acid Cleanser.

The second cleanse.

Back in the day, I used to use a second boujee cleanser because I wanted optimal results. However, it has being pointed out to me that cleansers are probably the main step in your routine that you can stand to lose money because they simply replace product and don’t actually improve your skin. For my second simply skincare routine, I reach for my Garnier Micellar Water on one of my reusable cleansing pads. Simple, effective and more than enough for getting rid of that tiny amount of stubborn makeup that remains after the main cleanse.

The tone.

Throughout all of my years spending hell of a lot of money on skincare, one step that has always confused me and made me wonder if I am spending my money wisely is on the toner. However, I figured that with stripping back my skincare routine so much, it cant hurt to have one product in there that may be questionable if it was making a difference or not. I decided that the toner I would go with should be one that had a bloody high rating, and I opted for the Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing Pads. I actually cut these in half and find that is more than enough to tone my complexion. Whether it is working or not may be beyond me, but we can see n time!

The retinol.

When I hit 30, I wanted to add a retinol into my skincare routine, but just as I mentioned above, I was nervous and overwhelmed with the number of them on the market. But beyond that, I was also nervous about how to use the item correctly and not end up damaging my skin. My dermatologist told me to stick with simplicity and in the end I opted for The Ordinary Retinal 0.2% Emulsion. It is the best rated product for aging prevention and since adding it into my routine I honestly see a positive difference in my complexion with how bright and luminous my skin looks.

The moisturiser.

Over the years, I have tried so many different moisturisers and I kick myself. I have literally wasted hundreds of pounds sometimes on the hunt to try and find the perfect one for my skin. In the end, the moisturiser that I have been using and absolutely loving for a very long time now is the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream. For me, I slather a very good amount of this on the face, down my neck and onto my chest. It provides long lasting hydration and when I wake in the morning, my skin feels plump and moisturised. I will forever kick myself that I dicked around for years wasting my money when the best item was the cheapest that I have ever used.

The eye cream.

I will admit that my dermatologist wasn’t that keen on advising an eye cream because in her opinion, they don’t differ that much to a general facial moisturiser and that in her eyes, they are just a marketing gimmick. However, on the off chance that they could work, I knew that I wanted to add one into my routine. I opted for the Inkey List Caffeine Eye Cream and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I take just a small dot under each eye, work that in using my ring finger and then leave it to settle in without working it too much.

The lip mask.

Just like the rest of the people in the world, when it come to looking for an overnight lip mask, I didn’t get much further from the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. For such a long time I tried to avoid this because I thought that it was just another overhyped product from TikTok. However, after actually picking this up and using it religiously I can see a big difference in my very dry lips. They are much more plush looking and I solely put that down to using this product.

As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post and learning more about my simple evening skincare routine. I think that there really is a lot to be said for simplifying your routine. My skin has always being incredibly clear, and I am fortunate for that, but putting hoards of different chemicals on my skin was simply rocking the boat rather than helping my skin with the few things that it really needs.

Where possible, I will add a link below to the items that I have mentioned should you wish to check any of them out for yourself. I also want to hear from you guys. Do you have any key products that you regularly use that I should be aware of and that could play a part in my simple skincare routine.
