As we are about to move into a New Year, I am thinking ahead and the positive intentions that I want to carry through with me. I understand that when I talk like this some people think that I am going down a hippy rabbit hole. However, regardless of what other people think, I know that a positive mindset has helped me immeasurably.
In this post, I want to share with you some of the ways that I start my day with positivity and how it helps me to get myself in the right mindset for the rest of the day.
Exercise first thing.
Each and every single day, regardless of what I have going on, I will exercise in a morning. You guys know the benefits of exercise, so I won’t go into that. However, for me, I really love the amount of discipline that exercising on a daily basis provides me with. It is something that I can be incredibly proud of and it makes me feel absolutely fantastic that I have ticked something so monumental from my list.
Cold shower to follow.
I am sure that over the last couple of years you guys will have heard about the benefits of cold showers. To be honest, I have been a big fan of them for an incredibly long time, however over the past year or so I have implemented them as part of my daily routine. I feel like afterwards, not only am I much more awake, I have a level of mental clarity that wasn’t there before.
Beginning skincare routine.
Once my shower is complete and before moving onto my next step, I like to lather my skin up in a thick layer of hydration. Usually, I will do a quick cleanse and then go in with my moisturiser, serum and an eye cream. I probably apply far too much, but I am a big fan of the slugging technique to get that hit of hydration first thing in a morning.
Journalling and meditation.
Back in the day, journaling was something that I couldn’t stand. There as so many people online showing you bullet journalling and all of that stuff. For me, journalling is a practicality to writing down your thoughts and acknowledging them. From here, once I understand my thoughts, I try to take some time to sit, analyse them, process them and get myself in a better headspace.
Listen to music and get ready.
I am the kind of person who’s mood can easily be adjusted by the music that I am listening to. If I have something low energy on, that is exactly what my mood will mirror. So, as I sit down in a morning to do my makeup, I ensure that I have some music on that can feed my energy rather than drain it. That does mean that I don’t always listen to the best music, but it means that by the time I am ready, I feel set up for the day.
Make the bed and straighten up the house.
I know that I have OCD, but I think that people having a tidy and clear home can help everybody. It is like the old saying, tidy home, tidy mind. I completely agree with that. If my space is overwhelming and untidy, I feel like that is exactly how my thoughts are. Plus, because my bed has so many pillows and throws, it is quite an accomplishment in itself to get it looking right.
Set a rough plan for the rest of the day.
Once I am pretty much ready to run with the rest of my day, I like to think about some of the things that I want to achieve that day. It may be practical things that I must undertake for work, or some ‘nice-to-do’ tasks that I would simply like to remove from my lists. By setting them first thing in a morning, it allows me to make the most of my time and achieve everything that I set out to.
As always, I hope you guys enjoyed reading this post and learning more about the ways that I try to improve my levels of positivity. For me, it all starts with setting good intentions in a morning and then allowing that to carry me through the rest of the day. So much of how you feel is mindset and I stand by the changes that I have made.
I want to hear from you guys in the comments below. What are some of the positive intentions that you start your day with and how does it help you?

Exercising keeps me feeling positive and good – although not doing much of it lately as I’m pregnant. I need to get back into a routine.

It’s so fun to find another blogger who swears by cold showers. High-five for that one! They really do wake you up and clear your mind, don’t they? I’m totally with you on the energizing music while getting ready; it’s like a mini mood-booster session xx
