A couple months ago, I shared with you guys a few posts all about our fertility journey. In that post, I mentioned that IVF was on the horizon, but we weren’t quite ready to pull the trigger and take the leap. Today I am going to give you an update about where we are now, what our thoughts are and what we are planning.
If I am going to be transparent with you, I want to start from the very beginning. Deciding to pull the trigger is a massive thing and something that we have put off for far too long. So, this is me laying down my cards…
Why we think now is the right time.
For a while, we knew that IVF was going to be the only way that we would have a baby. But for some reason, last year when they told us that, we weren’t ready to get started. I think we were overwhelmed and unaware of how the process would run. So, we put it on ice. Taking some time really put into perspective just how much we want this and then it suddenly dawned on us one day that we were suddenly ready to take the leap.

The hope that something else may happen.
One of the reasons why we wanted to wait was in the hope that something else may happen naturally. Obviously, it didn’t, but we did remain hopeful. We were doing everything that you are meant to… the tracking, the hormone supplements, etc. It is one of those things and even though nothing happened, we weren’t too disheartened. We knew that the chances were second to none, so we took it with a grain of salt and tried to move past it.

The time it gave us.
One thing that I am grateful for waiting a little longer for is the fact that it gave us more time. More time as a couple to enjoy it just being the two of us. Not only that, but it gave us more time to save money, get our heads around it. I think the thing with time is that it allows you to talk about things, get excited and plan the next steps. For a while now we have spoken about taking that next step and getting started and it has only made us look forward to it all more.

What happens next.
For us, because we have already been for our consultations, we can literally pull the trigger and jump straight into IVF. It will mean that hormone injections start pretty much instantly until they can do an egg retrieval. There may be a slight wait for a gap in their schedule, but it shouldn’t be anything too extensive. It is a scary thing, but hopefully something that is positive and smooth sailing. We can only hope!
As always, I hope you guys enjoyed this post about the start of our IVF journey. It feels incredibly intimidating to be putting this out there, but it feels right. We couldn’t be more prepared for this to happen and I think at this moment we can deal with all of the trials and tribulations that will come with the IVF journey. As always, I would love to hear from you guys on this. Did you go through IVF, or do you know anybody that did? Also, do you have any pearls of wisdom to pass on to somebody that is just getting started?
